Student Vaccine Requirement Update

As of Dec. 22, 2021, we have removed the registration hold that required students to submit evidence of a COVID-19 vaccination to enroll in spring 2022 courses.  If you were unable to register for spring 2022 courses due to this hold, you will now be able to register in classes that have available seats.

The hold is being lifted because the original mandate imposed by the Nevada State Board of Health has expired, and on Dec. 21 the Nevada legislative commission did not give approval to extend the regulation.

Please note that any other holds on your account still need to be addressed before you can register for courses.  If you need to remove an advising hold or speak to an advisor about spring registration, please contact the Academic Advising Center at (702) 992-2160 or advising@nsc.flywheelstaging.com, or visit our Academic Advising page at www.nsc.flywheelstaging.com/advising.  If you have questions about the COVID-19 hold or its removal, please contact the Office of the Registrar at (702)-992-2110 or registrar@nsc.flywheelstaging.com.

The success and well-being of our students remains our top priority, and we must remind you that COVID-19 vaccines continue to be the most effective way to end the pandemic and the safest way to provide you with an uninterrupted learning environment at Nevada State. We will continue to do our part to help you experience an excellent semester in spring 2022.

Welcome Back!

We’re excited to see you back to campus this spring and committed to making it a transformative experience. We are Back and Bold! During these challenging times, the health and safety of students, faculty, and staff remain paramount. As such, we appreciate your willingness to follow these guidelines. For additional and regularly updated information regarding NSC’s response to COVID-19, please visit nsc.flywheelstaging.com/coronavirus.

Face Coverings

Your safety is our top priority. We are continuing to follow the mandates from the Governor’s Office and the CDC guidelines. Face coverings are no longer mandatory on campus, including all NSC buildings, classrooms, the plaza area, and all student services areas. While face coverings will no longer be required in public spaces, please be cognizant that COVID-19 is ongoing. Take into consideration your health and health of others when making a personal decision.

Outside of the classroom, expect to see signage, floor decals, and fewer chairs (to discourage large gatherings). Since people can spread the virus before they know they are sick, it is essential to stay away from others even if you have no symptoms.

Student services areas with a counter may have a plexiglass barrier, and hand sanitizing stations have been added to each floor near entrances, stairwells, and elevators.

Self Isolating

What is the quarantine guidance if a person is exposed to COVID-19 or tests positive for COVID-19?

  • Individuals who are fully vaccinated (defined as having received a vaccination booster or a full Pfizer or Moderna vaccination series within 6 months of exposure or Johnson and Johnson within 2 months of exposure) who are exposed to a COVID positive person will not need to quarantine unless they are symptomatic. They should continue to mask for 10 days.
  • A student who is exposed to someone with COVID-19 and is not fully vaccinated or received their full vaccination series greater than 6 months (Pzfizer or Moderna) or 2 months (Johnson & Johnson) from exposure, per the state of Nevada and the Southern Nevada Health district quarantine for 5 days and mask for another 5 days.

A student who has tested positive for COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status, must quarantine for 5 days and mask for another 5 days.

Vaccinations

For spring 2022, students are not required to be vaccinated for COVID-19 to come to campus or attend classes. Students who wish to enroll for the summer or fall 2022 semester may need additional immunizations – please  refer to the requirements here.

Staying Safe

Symptom Monitoring

If you do not feel well, do not come to campus. Students should conduct a personal symptom monitoring check every day before leaving for school. At this time, symptoms include one or more of the following:

  • Consistent Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Repeated shaking with chills
  • Diarrhea
  • Runny nose/sniffles/new or unknown sinus congestion
  • Muscle pain
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • New loss of taste or smell

Please notify your instructor(s) of your absence per syllabus instructions

Reporting Positive Tests

Students who have tested positive for COVID-19 are encouraged to notify Dr. Stefanie Coleman, Dean of Students, at Stefanie.Coleman@nsc.flywheelstaging.com and complete the self-reporting form.

Positive COVID-19 test reports will be kept in the strictest confidence and will only be shared with individuals with a need know (e.g., Human Resources, General Counsel) as well as County health officials. Human Resources will provide support and guidance to students who test positive for COVID-19.

The self-report form and many more tools are also available on the State Safe app. To download the app and access features including campus, community, and crisis resources, simply search State Safe in the Apple iTunes or Google Play store.

Return to Campus Requirements

Students who have tested positive for COVID-19, have come in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19 or are exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms must either (1) self-quarantine for a minimum of 14 days, and be free of ALL symptoms or (2) notified by the Division of College and Community Engagement of return date to class, if not showing symptoms of COVID-19.

Elevators

We cannot maintain social distancing in an elevator; therefore, we ask that you try to keep the number of people in the elevator to a minimum. If you have an underlying health issue that requires you to take the elevator or if you need an individual with you for physical assistance or an ADA accommodation, that is appropriate and understandable. If you can take the stairs, please take the stairs.

Missed Class or Assignments

Students who miss class or are unable to turn in assignments due to COVID or other extenuating circumstances may submit a student absence notification request. If approved, student success staff will reach out to your faculty and advocate for alternative arrangements. While there are limitations to this consideration and not every request is approved, students are encouraged to review this resource at www.nsc.flywheelstaging.com/sans for complete information.
