As an immigrant from the Philippines who went to graduate school in the U.S., I understand how difficult study can be for students who speak English as a second language. Despite these challenges, undergoing nursing education presented me with more opportunities than I ever imagined were possible for an immigrant. I went on to become a nationally board-certified, advanced practice registered nurse specializing in family practice, and I now have 25 years of experience in long-term care, medical-surgical, and critical care nursing. Today, as a nurse educator at Nevada State College, I have the sacred privilege of shaping and influencing the education of future nurses. I am able to share my nursing expertise with my students and provide them with excellent preparation for the role of a professional nurse though the Bachelor of Science in nursing degree program.
