I am originally from Texas (a small town just east of Austin), but have lived all over the south and southwest and have been in Boulder City since 2008. My academic background is in biology and freshwater ecology (M.S. Aquatic Biology). Prior to joining the faculty at Nevada State College as a Biology Lecturer, I was a lecturer for the Environmental/Urban Studies undergraduate program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (2012-2019). I am also currently a Ph.D. student in the Science Education program in Curriculum and Instruction (College of Education) at UNLV, where I am interested in undergraduate ecology education.
I enjoy teaching introductory biology because it touches on a multitude of topics that are important in understanding how you work and are connected to our world. Even if your major is not in a science discipline, you live on Earth and hopefully will gain an appreciation of the life (including yourself!) on our complex, curious and fascinating planet.
In my spare time, I enjoy watery (and dry!) environments of all kinds, and like to hike, wade and explore with my two boys, Hance (age 12) and Errol (age 8) and husband, Todd. I also play 12-string acoustic guitar and sing, and perform occasionally in Boulder City and beyond.
