I am an associate professor of social studies education. In addition to my courses at Nevada State College, I also teach courses at Mojave High School in North Las Vegas as part of the Mojave Teacher Pipeline Project. My professional interests focus on critical, constructivist, and community-based approaches to education, multicultural and culturally responsive teaching, teacher preparation and retention, and social studies curriculum and education. My current work includes research related to the life and career trajectories of bilingual and English as a second language teachers, and the experiences of teacher candidates and teachers in their curricular decision-making related to social studies in classrooms with culturally and linguistically diverse students. I have several years of teaching experience at both elementary and secondary levels in urban public schools in Houston, Texas.
