The Disability Resource Center has returned to campus. Although we are back on campus, we will NOT be taking any walk in’s. The DRC will remain predominantly online for general inquires. If you have a more specific question, concern, or you must see someone in person, you will need to make an appointment with the appropriate staff member. You will still be able to contact us by phone, chat, or email.
We will continue to fulfill accommodation requests in a remote setting. (Please see below for some general FAQs)

With the move to remote classes, student notetakers will be discontinued until further notice. (Note: This does NOT include notetaking software and/or checked out devices).

No, your current letters will suffice. Please do not re-do any requests that you have already been receiving for Spring 2020 semester. If you have not requested accommodations for Fall 2020, you are still able to do so through your “MyDRC” account.
The DRC will be opening the testing rooms on a very LIMITED basis. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, new procedures are in place for testing. The rooms will only be available to DRC students who have NO other adequate testing options available or on a case-by-case basis after speaking with the DRC.
It depends. Tests that are conducted remotely through CANVAS do not need to be requested through the DRC. It is the professor’s responsibility to extend the test time in CANVAS based on the approved testing accommodation. Be sure that you have provided your professor a copy of your accommodation letter; otherwise, no extension can be given.
Nursing students taking an ATI exam may request distance proctoring from the DRC if there is a conflict for the professor. An example would be a professor who is unable to continue proctoring the extended time due to having to lecture for another class. In these types of cases, students should speak with their professor ahead of time and then complete the Test Scheduling Form being sure to check the box for “Distance Proctoring”. Please note that the DRC cannot assist with any technical issues a student may encounter during testing.
If you are in a class that is the using the traditional “on-campus, paper/pencil” testing, you may request your testing accommodations through the DRC as usual by completing the Test Scheduling Form.
Students with extenuating circumstances who feel they need to test at the DRC should contact the DRC at least seven (7) business days in advance and speak with either the Assistant Director (Joan Rachmel), or the Director (Sharnee’ Walker). Approvals will be made on a case-by-case basis only after an interactive conversation. Once approved, students will need to complete the Test Scheduling Form per DRC policy.
Yes, you will still be able to receive your approved extra time for testing. Professors will need to extend your test time in Canvas based on the time approved in your Accommodation letter.
Please contact your professor right away regarding any testing accommodation problems or issues. Feel free to Cc’ the DRC so that we are aware of any problems. If problems continue to exist, the DRC will then be available to assist with communication between you and your professor(s).
No, accommodations don’t typically change due to the method of modality (on-campus versus online). If you have concerns regarding your current accommodations and how those will translate to the online modal, please feel free to contact the DRC.
