Scorpion Academic Scholarship

There are two separate scholarships based on admissions types: First-Year/Freshmen & Transfer. There are three award levels within each of these scholarship types based on GPA. (see chart below)

In order to qualify students must apply to Nevada State for general admission by the deadlines listed below. There is not a separate application for the Scorpion Academic Scholarship.

Scorpion Freshmen Scholarship

Upcoming Award:  Fall 2023

Qualifying High School Graduates:  Class of 2023

Admission Application Submission Deadline:  February 1, 2023

7th Semester Transcript Submission Deadline:  February 15, 2023

Information & Requirements

  • 3.25 or higher 7th semester unweighted GPA in order to qualify
  • Awarded once a year for the fall semester (students must enter in the fall semester following HS graduation)
  • Scholarship is valid for 8 consecutive semesters (excluding summer terms)
  • Current dual credit high school students are candidates for this scholarship
  • Merit-based scholarship offerings vary year to year, based on available funding: the awards listed on this page are for incoming students during the 2023/24 academic year.

Scorpion Transfer Scholarship

Upcoming Award:  Fall 2023

Qualifying NSHE Community College Graduates:  Spring 2023 & Summer 2023

Admission Application Submission Deadline:  June 1, 2023.

Transcript Submission Deadline:  June 15, 2023

Transcripts with in-progress coursework are expected and in most cases the AA/AS/AB degree will not be posted on these transcripts. Final transcripts will be required later to complete this process.

Information & Requirements

  • 3.25 or higher cumulative GPA in order to qualify
  • Awarded twice a year for the fall and spring semesters (students must enter in the semester after they receive their AA)
  • Scholarship is awarded for 4 consecutive semesters (excluding summer terms)
  • Required to graduate from an NSHE community college with an AA/AS/AB the semester immediately preceding starting at Nevada State (not including summer term)
  • Required to be a first-time Nevada State student (HS dual credit admission is an exception)
  • AA/AS/AB must be the first standard collegiate degree completed.
  • Students must send final transcripts from an NSHE community college after final semester grades and Associates Degree are posted in order to maintain scholarship eligibility.
  • Merit-based scholarship offerings vary year to year, based on available funding: the awards listed on this page are for incoming students during the 2023/24 academic year.
  • Award may be met with a combination of scholarships and grants.

Additional Nevada State College Scholarships

Leadership Scholarship

  • Admission Application Deadline: February 1, 2023
  • Scholarship Application Deadline: February 15, 2023

Nevada State College will award a one-time $1,000 scholarship to new freshman students in their first semester of enrollment who served as an officer in their high school student government, applied for admission by February 1, 2023 with a 2.75 unweighted cumulative high school GPA  based on final seventh semester transcripts received no later than February 15, 2023 and who enroll as a full-time (12 or more financial aid-eligible credits†), degree-seeking student.  Applicants must submit the Leadership Scholarship Application including a letter of recommendation no later than February 15, 2023For questions about this scholarship, email recruitment@nsc.flywheelstaging.com.

Leadership Scholarship Letter of Recommendation Requirements:

  1. Must be written on high school letterhead.
  2. Must be written by a high school counselor or student organization advisor
  3. Must state student's role within high school student government

Matching Scholarship

This scholarship is available to new and continuing students. Nevada State College will provide a match of up to $500 total per semester total to students who receive scholarships from an outside agency (excludes any scholarships awarded by Nevada State College, NSHE, or the State of Nevada).

The match will be automatically applied during the semester to degree-seeking students with a minimum 2.75 cumulative NSC GPA who are making Satisfactory Academic Progress and are enrolled full-time (12 or more financial aid-eligible credits†).  Award disbursements will be held until after the enrollment cancellation for non-attendance has taken place.

Millennium Scholarship

Eligible Millennium Scholars must be enrolled full-time (12 or more financial aid-eligible credits) to receive the $60 per credit award and may be funded for up to 15 credits per semester. (Remedial courses are not eligible for funding, but will count toward the full-time enrollment requirement.) Financial Aid Eligible Credits

† In order to qualify for any financial aid funding, including grants, scholarships or loans, a course must fulfill an unmet requirement for a student's degree or certificate program at Nevada State College.

Nevada Scholarship Opportunity for DACA and DREAMer Students

Nevada State College is a proud partner of TheDream.US, a national scholarship fund for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) or Temporary Protective Status eligible DREAMers.

The scholarship is open to:

  • Current High School seniors who will graduate with a GPA of 2.5 or greater
  • Students who earned or will earn a high school equivalency diploma by the end of the academic year with a score that is equivalent to a GPA of 2.5 or greater
  • Current community college students who will graduate with a GPA of 3.0 or greater by the end of the academic year
  • Community college graduates with a GPA of 3.0
