After graduating with a B.A. in English from Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida, I earned an MFA in Creative Writing from Northern Arizona University (NAU) in Flagstaff. I taught English composition at NAU from 2013 to 2015. Then, I relocated to the Las Vegas Valley, where I taught English composition at College of Southern Nevada and led creative writing workshops for Clark County students at downtown Las Vegas bookstore, The Writer’s Block. I began teaching English composition part-time at Nevada State College in 2017 and became a full-time English lecturer, teaching composition and creative writing, in the fall of 2018.
My specialties include the function of music and creative writing in the composition classroom and the necessity of active reading workshops for first-year college students. My academic interests involve current composition pedagogies; 20th century American literature, especially the expatriate modernist movement and Southern Gothic literature; and contemporary film.
In my spare time, I enjoy writing short fiction, poetry, and book reviews, practicing and teaching yoga, and traveling.
