My mother always told me I should grow up to be an English professor, so obviously I majored in just about every discipline except English for as long as could before I realized that, in fact, I was meant to teach English. After earning my BA in English Literature, I spent three years in an MFA program at Texas State University, where I not only worked with professional writers to learn about craft and hone my creative writing skills, but I also had excellent faculty in the English department who mentored me in the teaching of college writing and literature. Before joining NSC in 2015, I worked on college access and equity with CSN’s TRiO Student Support Services program, where I was inspired by those students who were first in their families to attend college. Their stories further shaped my teaching philosophy and continue to inform my teaching semester after semester. Beyond my BA in English and MFA in Creative Writing, I expect to earn my PhD in Literacy Education from UNLV in May 2019.
